Mashrafe Mortaza’s house set ablaze by protestors as Bangladesh continues to burn amid unrest

New Delhi: Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza was targeted by the protesters amid the ongoing unrest in the nation as they set his house on fire in the Narail district on Monday. Bangladesh continues to burn amid the student protests that have taken the nation by storm and have brought a lockdown status. The students are being detained and shot by police and security forces as the two sides continue to remain in a tussle.

Mortaza, an MP with the ruling Awami League party, faced the wrath of the protesting students who torched his home, reportedly for staying mum on the matter as the massacre and students’ arrests continued. They expressed their anger on his home, the photos of which have gone viral on the internet. Huge flames of fire can be seen engulfing his home as Bangladesh continues to boil.

The photos showed the agitators vandalising his house and setting it ablaze. The mob didn’t spare District Awami League office and party President Subash Chandra Bose as well, burning his residence as well.

Mortaza took the field as the skipper of the Bangladesh cricket team in 117 matches across the formats, which remains the highest for his nation. In his extensive career, he claimed 390 wickets in international cricket and accumulated 2,955 runs while playing 36 Tests, 220 ODIs, and 54 T20Is for his country. As he bid adieu to cricket, he ventured into politics in 2018, joining Bangladesh PM Sheikh Haseen-led Awami League, and claimed a seat as an MP from the Narail-2 constituency.
