New Delhi: Mohammed Shami made a much-awaited return to international cricket after the star pacer was named in India’s playing X1 for the third T20I against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November 2023. He has been nursing injuries since the final in Ahmedabad and underwent ankle surgery.
The star pacer was named in India’s squad for the white-ball series against England but was excluded from the first two T20Is.
Shami played for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the last two months.
His return to the national fold is a good sign for India ahead of the Champions Trophy which starts on February 19 in Pakistan. With an injury cloud on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability, Shami’s return comes as a welcome news for the Men In Blue.
India are looking to wrap up the series in Rajkot after winning the first two T20Is of the five-match series.
