New Delhi: MS Dhoni, the talisman of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), looks to be gearing up well for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The team is currently at their den, i.e. the Chepauk Stadium, practicing for their season opener. On Tuesday, Dhoni yet again showcased he has a lot of cricket left in him, even at the ripe age of 43.
While facing young pace gun Matheesha Pathirana, he smacked the bowler for a six with his vintage helicopter shot. The clip of the incident instantly went viral on the internet, getting thousands of likes and comments from the “Thala” fanatics.
Pathirana sent down a searing yorker towards Dhoni, who brought out his iconic helicopter to send the ball flying over the bowler’s head and crossing the boundary line of the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Dhoni ahead of IPL 2025
CSk retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for the IPL 2025. He was retained for an amount of Rs. 4 crore, much lesser than what he was paid in the previous seasons. This swelled CSK’s purse considerably and they were able to keep other options as well in their side. This could well be Dhoni’s last season in the IPL.
Although he has flirted with the idea of retiring several times before, it seems this might be his final outing. For those thinking about what keeps him going at 43, Dhoni answered this at a promotional event held some time back. The former CSK skipper, who has five IPL trophies in his cabinet, said he has to work at least 6-8 months in order to be prepared for the two-month IPL season.
Dhoni took retirement from international cricket in 2020, after which, he has made it a point to join CSK’s pre season training camps earlier than most of the players. He will turn 44 in July 2025 but has maintained his fitness quite well, meeting with the demands of the cash-rich league.
