New Delhi: Australian spin ace Nathan Lyon revisited his long-standing rivalry with Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Lyon expressed his deep respect for the Indian spin maestro and heaped praise on him for his craft which has proven to be match-winning for India. Both will be seen adding another chapter to their year-long battle in November this year.
Lyon and Aswhin are two veterans playing for their respective nations for a pretty long now, having debuted around the same time. Lyon highlighted that the fierce rivalry that he has shared over the years with him is full of respect. This year, Ashwin reached the 500 Test wicket landmark and Lyon himself carries an icredible tally of 530 wickets, making them two of the spin greats in modern cricket.
Both spinners will be seen playing pivotal roles in their sides and the head-to-head battle between them might prove beneficial for the team. Speaking in an exclusive interaction with Star Sports in the build-up to the five-Test series, Lyon said, “I know Ashwin and we debuted around similar times and we’ve competed against each other in a number of series now and between me and Ashwin I have got nothing but respect for him.”
“I feel like I love watching him bowl, he’s an absolute master in the craft of off-spin bowling and it’s been an absolute privilege to play against him and learn off him,” Lyon continued.

Moving on from Ashwin, Lyon also shared his excitement about facing the Men in Blue, which according to him is full of “superstars”. He weighed in on the fact that battling against the best in business has always been the spearhead of his career. The mighty Aussies and the Indian team boast massive talent and it will be nothing but exciting to watch them compete in the five-match series Down Under that begins on November 22 in Perth and will conclude on January 7 in Sydney.
