New Delhi: Washington Sundar lauded his India teammate Nitish Reddy after the young all-rounder slammed his maiden Test century against Australia on Saturday. Reddy notched up his first ton for India in the whites on Day 3 of the ongoing 4th Test against the hosts at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. His unbeaten 105 lifted India from 191/6 to 350/9 in their first innings at the stumps on Day 3.
Reddy completed his maiden Test hundred off 171 balls and was involved in a record 127-run 8th wicket partnership with half-centurion Sundar. The duo combined to bail India out of trouble with their sensational partnership which not only helped the visitors comfortably avoid follow-on but also saw them close the gap of Australia’s first-innings total of 474 runs.
It was a memorable knock for Reddy, who looked composed under pressure and batted well against both pacers and spinner Nathan Lyon, manoeuvring them across all parts of the ground to keep the scoreboard rotating. He also displayed his power-hitting skills with some brilliant boundaries en route his special ton.
Lauding Reddy after his terrific knock, Sundar said the 21-year-old’s century will be remembered forever. Sundar also praised Reddy’s work ethic and said he always puts hard yards during training which is pleasing to watch for him as a teammate.
“Nitish Reddy is an unbelievable player. Mentally very strong. This century here at MCG will be remembered forever. Nitish is someone who gives 100% in everything. That’s his motive in life. It is very pleasing for us to watch,” Sundar told Star Sports following the conclusion of Day 3’s play at the MCG.
Sundar also opened up on the message from the dressing room when he was put in the middle with reddy trying to help India fightback in the Test match. The all-rounder said both head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma always urge them to fight till the end, irrespective of the situation.
“One thing about Gauti bhai, Rohit bhai is they always tell us to keep fighting. No matter what the situation is, they always tell us, fight hard,” said Sundar.

The 21-year-old all-rounder has so far notched up 284 runs in 4 matches at an excellent average of 71, including a solitary hundred. He will be looking to add to his tally when he resumes India’s first innings on Day 4 of the Test match on Sunday.
