Old tweet of Virat Kohli goes viral amid reports of comeback in Duleep Trophy

New Delhi: Star India batter Virat Kohli has been long missing from the Indian domestic circuit having become a regular in the Indian cricket team for more than a decade now. He was recently reported to be taking part in the Duleep Trophy 2024 along with his mates Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah as rumours started hitting the internet with fans expressing excitement over seeing Kohli back in domestic cricket after a long time.

Amidst all the speculations, a 14-year-old tweet of Kohli has gone viral. The tweet was made back in 2010 in which Kohli wrote, “Wish me luck for Duleep Trophy”. Kohli was already an integral part of the white ball side of India when the tweet was posted. It is noteworthy that he hasn’t played any domestic cricket since 2012 when he featured for Delhi against Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.

Despite reports of Kohli being available for the Duleep Trophy, it remains highly unlikely that he will feature in the tournament as a few other reports have suggested contrasting details. While some reports state that the decision to take part in the tournament depends upon Kohli himself, having given a special leeway, a report in ESPNcricinfo has revealed that Kohli, Rohit, and Bumrah won’t be a part of the Duleep Trophy.

The tournament will be played from September 5 to 22 and will see the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Shreyas Iyer, and Sarfaraz Khan taking the field. The BCCI has been adamant on notifying players about taking part in domestic cricket when not on national duty. Kohli and other senior players are reportedly exempted due to the hectic Test schedule of India in the upcoming months.

The Rohit Sharma and co. will play two Tests against Bangladesh followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand, both at home. They will go on Australia tour in November for a five-match Test series which is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
