Moscow: As many as 100 people were feared injured on Monday when a passenger train derailed in Russia’s southern Volgograd region, according to Russian news agencies. The Interfax news agency reported that eight train cars had gone off the tracks.
“Paramedics are on the scene,” said the emergency ministry, noting that 324 emergency workers were deployed. Emergency helicopters were being dispatched to the area near Kotelnikovo station. The train was en route from Kazan to Adler on the Black Sea.
An unverified video circulating on Telegram displayed at least four derailed carriages, some twisted, with passengers climbing out of one that had tipped onto its side next to the tracks. According to TASS, citing anonymous sources in Russian law enforcement, 20 people were reported injured after the train collided with a Kamaz truck.
