New Delhi: The Tiger and Tigress campaign got underway with plenty of young talents turning up for the trials. The pan-India programme aims to give kids across the country a shot at training in Austria, where scouts from VfB Stuttgart will assess them and pick the best potential players.

The trials were split into U-13, U-15, and U-17 categories, with boys and girls travelling from cities like Lucknow, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Manipur. Before the trials began, Delhi Soccer Association president and Sudeva owner, Anuj Jain, welcomed the participants and wished them luck.

The Delhi camp saw over 500 kids taking part, with more than 100 girls among them. The U-13 trials kicked off in the morning with plenty of energy. Players were divided into groups of four, ensuring every team had forwards, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers to create a real match-like feel. Each participant got ten minutes of game time to showcase their skills. The U-15 category had the most players, with participants forming 17 teams, making it a highly competitive batch.

For the U-17 trials, players competed in a group-style format to keep the contest intense. The best performers from the day advanced to a knockout final in the evening, where they had one last chance to impress. Jain was hopeful that those selected for Austria would make the most of the opportunity. He believed young players getting these platforms could become future role models and saw this as just the beginning of something bigger.

Initiatives like these are crucial for developing young footballers, giving them exposure from an early age. More than just a trial, it’s an experience that helps kids understand their level, compete with their peers, and dream big. Seeing so many youngsters with ambition and determination is a refreshing sight.
