PAK vs BAN: Mushfiqur Rahim creates history for Bangladesh after scoring 191 in 1st Test

New Delhi: Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim broke multiple records after scoring 191 runs off 341 balls in the opening Test match against Pakistan. His remarkable knock was laced with 22 boundaries and one maximum.

He stitched crucial partnerships with Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan to get his team out of trouble. Rahim scored his 11th Test hundred on Day 4 and surpassed Tamim Iqbal to score the most overseas Test centuries (5) for Bangladesh. He also became the oldest Bangladeshi batter to score a century in Test cricket. Rahim also became the third batter for Bangladesh to score a Test century in Pakistan after Javed Umar and Habibul Bashar.

Bangladesh scored 565/10 in first innings

A 240-run partnership between Shakeel and Rizwan helped Pakistan to post 448 runs in the first innings. Rizwan scored an unbeaten 171 runs while Saud Shakeel scored 141 runs for the team.

Captain Shan Masood declared the innings to give Pakistan bowlers a chance to take wickets in the last 12 overs of the day but Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam managed to see off the day by scoring just 27 runs.

Bangladesh lost early wickets at the start of Day 3 but Shadman and Mominul’s partnership brought their team back into the game. Saim Ayub and Khurram Shahzad dismissed Shakib and Shanto cheaply. But Mushfiqur Rahim built a crucial 114-run partnership with Litton Das.

He also stitched another 196-run partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Rahim missed his double-century by 9 runs. Litton and Mahidy also scored their half-centuries and helped Bangladesh to take the lead of 117 runs on Day 4.

Mushfiqur is the all-time leading run-scorer for Bangladesh in Test cricket. He is also nearing the achievement of becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score 6000 Test runs.
