New Delhi: All eyes will be on India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra as he will be looking to script history by becoming the first Indian to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympics. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist will be fighting for his second successive gold medal in Paris when he takes the field in the final of the men’s javelin throw competition on Thursday.
After suffering multiple heartbreaks in Paris, there are high hopes from India’s Golden Boy Neeraj, who eased into the final after topping the charts during the qualifying round in men’s javelin on Tuesday. Neeraj produced an impressive throw of 89.34m during the qualification to book a spot in the final where he will be up against some of the best in the world.
Neeraj will also be eyeing India’s first gold medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics. India have so far managed to win all three medals at the Games, all bronze. All three bronze medals have come from shooting and the javelin superstar will be hopeful of clinching India’s first medal at the Paris Olympics outside of shooting.
Apart from Neeraj, the focus will also be on the Indian men’s hockey team, who will take on Spain in the bronze medal match. India lost 3-2 against Germany in the semi-final to miss out on an opportunity to play the gold medal match but will be hoping to bag their second successive bronze medal in Paris. India won the bronze medal after beating Germany at the Tokyo Olympics.
In wrestling, the young and promising Aamn Sehrawat will begin his campaign in the men’s freestyle 57kg category. He qualified for the Paris Olympics after defeating Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Dahiya and will be hoping to leave a mark in his debut campaign in Paris. Meanwhile, Anshu Malik will also get her campaign underway in wrestling in the women’s freestyle 57kg category.
