New Delhi: It was double medal bonanza for India at the Paris Paralympics as Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal bagged a gold medal and bronze medal respectively in shooting on day 2. Avani Lekhara won a gold medal at the Women’s 10m air rifle with a score of 249.7, which is also a Paralympic record while Mona Agarwal bagged bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle standing final with a score of 228.7.
Earlier in the day, defending champion Avani shot a 625.8 to be placed behind Iryna Shchetnik, who broke the Paralympic Qualification Record with a score of 627.5, Mona, the two-time World Cup gold medallist competing in her maiden Paralympics, shot 623.1.
Avani becomes first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold
Avani bagged her second successive gold medal and her third overall at the Paralympic Games as she had cliched a gold three years back at Tokyo 2021. Avani, who is wheel-chair bound after a car mishap left her paralysed below the waist when she was 11-years-old, had became the first woman shooter from the country to win medals in shooting at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. She has become the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold.
