PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to succeed BCCI’s Jay Shah as next ACC president: Report

New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman Mohsin Naqvi is poised become the next Asian Cricket Council president.

As per the organisation’s rotation policy, Naqvi will succeed incumbent Jay Shah, the Board of Control for Secretary in India, next year.

The post of presidency was discussed at a recent meeting of the ACC, PTI reported on Tuesday.

“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term,” PTI quoted a source as saying.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah got a one-year extension to remain as ACC president in January this year. It was his third consecutive term as the ACC chief.

“When Shah steps down the PCB chief will take over,” the source added.

The ACC has also decided to grant India hosting rights of 2025 Asia Cup, which will be a T20 version of the tournament. Its ODI version will be held in 2027 and will be held in Bangladesh.

In 2025 the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup are two major events slated to be held in 2025.

Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy in February-March after which the Asia Cup will be held as a tune-up tournament for the T20 World Cup in 2026.

It has led to speculations whether India will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy or Pakistan will tour India for the Asia Cup.

Pakistan took the flight to India last year for the 2023 ODI World Cup and has played in the country during the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2016 T20 World Cup.

India has refused to visit Pakistan since 2008 citing security reasons amid political tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

As per the organisation’s rotation policy, Naqvi will succeed incumbent Jay Shah.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
