New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee after Pakistan’s poor T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Razzaq was recently appointed to the selection committee for both men’s and women’s sides will no longer serve the role.
Pakistan lost their first two matches against the USA and arch-rivals India and failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. While the PCB has not made any official announcement yet, it will be announced later this week, according to ESPNcricinfo reports.
Mohammad Yusuf, Asad Shafiq and Bilal Asif are still part of the selection committee. Wahab also travelled with the team to the USA for the T20 World Cup as senior team manager and will be removed from that position.
He was demoted from the chief selector position when the board announced a seven-member committee four months ago with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi saying at that time “the seven-member committee would make a majority decision based around debate and argument to reach a satisfactory conclusion”.
The PCB had six chief selectors in the past four years with Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Wasim, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Haroon Rashid and Wahab recently.
Naqvi also had two crucial meetings with Pakistan’s white-ball coach Gary Kirsten and red-ball coach Jason Gillespie to discuss important matters.
Pakistan to host Bangladesh, England and West Indies at home for Test series
Pakistan will face Bangladesh in the two-match test series from August 21 to September 3. The Men in Green will play three test matches against England starting from October 7. Their last test assignment at home will be against West Indies in January. Pakistan’s home season also features an ODI tri-series between New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan just before the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to start on February 19.
