Pope Francis appealed for peace and asked for a cease-fire “on all fronts” during his Sunday’s Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square.
The pontiff remembered last year’s Hamas attack in Israel, asking for the liberation of hostages still held in Gaza. “From that day the Middle East has fallen into worse suffering,” Francis said who also asked for end of violence in Lebanon.
“I ask for an immediate ceasefire on every front, including Lebanon,” the pope said.
“I appeal to the international community, so that there can be an end to the spiral of revenge, and so that there won’t be anymore attacks such as the one done by Iran few days ago that could bring that region to an even bigger war,” Francis said.
“All nations have the right to exist in peace and security, and their territories must not be attacked or invaded,” he added.
Pope Francis declared a day of fasting and prayer to be observed on Monday October 7th, on then anniversary of the Hamas attack.
