Premier League 2024/25: Wolves stun Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to move out of relegation zone

New Delhi: Wolves had a great night at Molineux, as they managed to win against Aston Villa to keep themselves out of the relegation zone. It was a rather slow start to the game wen both the sides failed to produce any sort of major opportunities in the opening ten minutes of play. However, it didn’t tak long for the hosts to take the lead as Bellegarde buried the ball into the bottom-right corner to complete a quick team move for Wolves. The Haiti international blasted it past Martinez with skill as he was played by Sarabia on the right side of Villa’s area.

After the goal was scored, the next real chance came in the 36th minute when Cunha shook off Kamara after a quick counterattack, and Martinez saved a close-range shot. Guedes attempted to slot the ball into the bottom-left corner after recieving the rebound, but he missed the post by a little margin. The hosts were really threatening there as it should have been 2-0. However, moments before half time, another fantastic opportunity for Wolves to double their advantage went begging.

Guedes yet again missed the right-hand post by a few feet after Bellegarde split Villa’s retreating defence with a beautiful pass. The hosts constantly picked off a rather tired-looking Villa side on the counter, and really should have been ahead with a much larger margin before the second half.

A second half of disallowed goals and VAR drama

Moments after the restart, a lengthy delay occurred before Bailey played a free-kick down the defensive wall’s left side and McGinn cut it back across the box, and Malen managed to tuck it home from a close range thinking he scored his first Premier League goal. However, the assistant’s flag was raised for offside right away, but the VAR did take a look afterwards. The result- no goal for the visitors, much to the relief of Wolves.

Another frantic moment for Villa came when Matheus Cunha whipped in a free-kick that fell to Toti, who was subsequently taken down by a poorly timed challenge from Malen. The VAR intervened once more, but no penalty is given to the hosts. At this point, Wolves were barely seeing the ball but somehow were managing to get their chances upfront. Meanwhile, Villa were good with the possession but barely did anything, lacking in creativity and killer instinct.

Late in the day, Wolves did manage to register a a late late second goal from who else, but Matheus Cunha to win the match comfortably. It was a stunning goal from the Brazilian as the Wolves forward jumped in when Konsa was unable to clear the ball. He then took an aim and shot a bullet past Martinez and into the bottom-left corner, seemingly finding a blind alley in his stop-start run. That goal sealed the deal for Wolves as now they face a tough game ahead, against Liverpool while strugling Villa will be facing Ipswich in their next Premier League fixture.

Wolves delivered a stunning 2-0 victory over Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, securing a crucial three points to lift themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
