New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be available to play for Saurashtra in their upcoming Ranji Trophy match. The second phase of India’s red-ball season is set to resume from January 23 onwards. Saurashtra are set to face Delhi in Rajkot from January 23 to 26.
Many international stars have confirmed their availability to turn up for their respective state teams after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) apparently issued mandatory participation in domestic matches for international selection in its latest set of guidelines.
Jadeja is the latest addition to that lot as he showed up for the team’s training session in Rajkot on Sunday. He was part of India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under, which the visitors lost by 1-3.
He last played a Ranji Trophy match in January 2023, the season where Saurashtra were the eventual champions.
“Jadeja has turned up for training today. He will play the next match,” Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah told news agency PTI on Sunday.
A match of utmost importance
The Saurashtra vs Delhi match will have a keen interest after India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant confirmed his presence for the Ayush Badoni-led Delhi side. With Jadeja’s confirmation, the match will grab enough eyeballs given that Saurashtra will have the services of veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara and pacer Jaydev Unadkat.
Saurashtra haven’t had a great season with the red ball, having won just one out of their five matches. They currently sit at sixth spot with 11 points. The team needs two big games to turn the tide around and that’s where the experience of the senior players will be crucial.
Delhi, on the other, side are on fourth spot with 14 points and need to win both the matches to push for a knockout spot.
Jadeja was included in India’s Champions Trophy squad, which was announced on Saturday during a press conference held by national chief selector Ajit Agarkar and India captain Rohit Sharma.
