Record IPL viewership boosts BCCI’s revenue to new heights – Report

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reported a remarkable increase in their financial reserves in 2024. BCCI is the richest cricketing body globally and earns its revenue from Indian Premier League (IPL) bilateral cricket media rights, and a major share of the International Cricket Council (ICC) revenue.

In 2022, BCCI sold IPL media rights for a whopping Rs 48,390 crore to Disney Star and Viacom 18 (now JioStar). Disney Star retained the TV media rights in the subcontinent for Rs 23,575 crore while Viacom 18 secured the digital media rights for Rs 23,758 crore. Apart from that, the board also sold home media rights (Domestic & international) to Viacom 18 for Rs 5963 crore (TV&Digital).

BCCI reported a big surge in revenue with its cash and bank balance increasing from Rs 16,493 crore in FY 2023 to Rs 20,686 crore in FY 2024, reflecting a massive increase of approximately Rs 4,200 crore (25.42%).

The apex council also reviewed progress on the North-East Development Project, an initiative for enhancing cricketing facilities and infrastructure in the region. Despite various challenges such as weather and electricity issues, physical progress in various states ranged between 19% and 53%. Photographs from the ongoing work showed some improvements, supporting BCCI’s dedication to developing cricket in the North-East.
