New Delhi: Captain Rohit Sharma’s Test career is facing serious questions after poor performances in the series against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia. Rohit and Virat struggled to score runs in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy as India’s 10-year dominance against Australia in Test cricket finally came to an end.
The Aussies clinched the five-match Test series by 3-1 with a victory in the New Year’s Test in Sydney. Rohit dropped himself from the fifth Test due to his poor performance with the bat. This got fans and experts to question his future in the longest format of the game. But Rohit in an interview with Star Sports said that he is not going anywhere.
“This is not a decision to retire, nor am I stepping away from the game. I’ve stood down for this match because I wasn’t scoring runs with the bat at the moment. I have confidence in me that things can change, but at the same time I have to be realistic as well. So life won’t change by what people with a mic, pen or laptop write or say” Rohit said on Star Sports.
‘Rohit has a future in stand-up comedy after he is done playing cricket’: Simon Katich
Former Australian cricketer and commentator Simon Katich said that he saw Rohit’s interview and he spoke very well. He took a dig at the Indian captain and said that he has a great future in stand-up comedy after he’s done playing cricket.
Katich further added that only Rohit knows whether he has the hunger to go again at the age of 37 as England is not going to be an easy series. He also said that the Three Lions are on their way up and they have some good young fast bowlers coming through and if Rohit chooses to play in that series it’s gonna be a tough tour for him.
“Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning. We saw it in this Test. It was very selfless of him to opt out of the Test, I saw in that interview, very well-spoken. There’s no doubt he has a future after he is done playing cricket in stand-up comedy because his humour was very good” Katich said on Star Sports.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma only managed to score 31 runs in the three matches he played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
