New Delhi: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed regret for calling his side the “worst team” in the club’s history and asserted that he was blaming himself more than his players. After United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, Amorim was critical of his side and showed frustration.
However, the 39-year-old on Wednesday in a press conference said that the problem was also with him for having led the side to seven defeats in the 15 games he has been in charge of. When asked about his remark, Amorim reminded that he had also said that he hadn’t been of help to his players. Amorim clarified that he never puts the blame on his players.

Amorim noted that there were times when his frustration got the better of him. The Portuguese manager though said that he had delivered the same message before his press conference, though in a different, keeping his “blunt” attitude for his players.
The former Sporting CP coach had altered his usual process of addressing his players immediately after the defeat to Brighton rather than delivering his message the next of the game. Earlier there were also reports that in his anger Amorim had damaged a TV. Amorim noted that being in his youth obviously meant that he would be making mistakes from time to time. Further, he noted that he was obviously wrong in addressing the team right after the game.
Manchester United’s trouble at home
United will next clash with Rangers in the Europa League at Old Trafford having four of their previous five home games. Under Amorim, United have put in some good performances including in front of Liverpool and Arsenal. Amorim agrees that his players at the moment have found it easier to play away than at home.
Amorim noted that his team was far more nervous playing at home than in away games. It had become a challenge for them but Amorim was confident in turning things around at home as well. He noted that the team would be much more calm if they didn’t concede early in the game. In all of their last five home games, united have conceded first, which includes, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Southampton and Brighton.
United captain Harry Maguire felt that it was less on the tactical front that they were failing but rather more on the focus on the game. Maguire was confident that the side would turn things around soon with game against Rangers a big opportunity to show the same.
Ruben Amorim noted that his statement was more a self criticism for failing to help his Manchester United and expressed repentance for calling his side the ‘worst’ team in the club’s history. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
