New Delhi: Indian cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh will reunite on the cricket field after more than a decade as the legendary duo gets ready to don the iconic blue jersey of India in the International Masters League. The opening match of the inaugural IML will be played between India and Sri Lanka in Mumbai on February 22, Saturday.

Widely regarded as the greatest player in history, Sachin is the highest run-scorer in international cricket with over 34,000 international runs including 100 centuries. While the Little Master dominated every format of the game, he featured in just one T20 International.

For that reason, the International Masters League presents a rare opportunity for the fans to witness him in Indian colours in the shortest format.

India, Sri Lanka reignite rivalry

The opening match of the IML will reignite the rivalry between India and Sri Lanka, two teams that have been involved in some breathtaking encounters over the years.

The most renowned and famous match between the two sides was the 2011 ODI World Cup final, where India lifted the trophy.

“We had some unforgettable moments playing against Sri Lanka over the years, the 2011 World Cup being the most special amongst them,” Tendulkar said.

“Stepping back onto the field after so many years, and facing a team that has been such a big part of our cricketing journey, makes this even more special.”

Meanwhile, Yuvraj has etched his name in the history books with memorable contributions to India’s most significant victories, including the 2011 World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup.

“I can’t wait to step back onto the field again. India versus Sri Lanka has always been a high-intensity, thrilling contest, and I know the fans are just as excited as we are,” Yuvraj said.

Six teams – India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, West Indies, and South Africa – comprising some of the cricket’s biggest names, will feature in the tournament.

The marquee competition will be staged across Navi Mumbai, Vadodara, and Raipur, which will also host the semi-finals and the final on March 16.
