Cricket Australia opted out to play in a bilateral series against Afghanistan twice and stated that they don’t want to play cricket against a nation who don’t support human rights for women and girls.

Asked to bat first, Afghanistan got off to a flying start as Gurbaz and Ibrahim stitched a 118-run partnership for the first wicket. Gurbaz scored 60 runs off 49 balls and Ibrahim Zadran scored 51 runs off 48 balls. After the great start, other Afghani batters failed to contribute with the bat and only scored 148 runs in 20 overs.

Pat Cummins took his second consecutive hat-trick and Adam Zampa also took two wickets. Chasing the target, Australia lost the wicket of Travis Head in the first over. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh also got out cheaply but Glenn Maxwell stood tall and scored 59 runs off 41 balls.

Gulbadin Naib changed the game for Afghanistan and picked up four wickets in a flash as Australia bundled out for 127 and Afghanistan won their first-ever match against Australia.

‘Massive win for our team and nation’: Rashid Khan

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan after the match said that it was a big win for their team and nation and it was a great feeling.

“Massive win for us as a team and as a nation. Great feeling. It’s something we missed in last two years. Really happy with the win and super proud of the guys. Quite important for us that we went back with the same playing XI. We’re reading the opposition bowling lineup and selecting XI accordingly” Rashid said after the match.
