The Union Law Ministry On Thursday notified the Rajya Sabha that there are currently 357 vacant judge positions across various High Courts in the country, with the Allahabad High Court experiencing the highest number of vacancies.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday announced that the Maharashtra government will establish onion banks in various locations to aid farmers growing this perishable crop. During a review meeting of the initiative, the CM explained that onions will be stored using solar energy, enabling farmers to hold onto their produce until they secure better prices. The project will launch in Rahuri, Ahmednagar, with additional facilities to be set up promptly in Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Solapur—areas known for high onion production, according to the CM.
President Droupadi Murmu has renamed two significant halls in Rashtrapati Bhavan: ‘Durbar Hall’ is now ‘Ganatantra Mandap,’ and ‘Ashok Hall’ is now ‘Ashok Mandap.’ This change aims to align the atmosphere of the prestigious building with Indian cultural values and ethos.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 6,700 Indian students have returned from Bangladesh due to the violent clashes in the country. These clashes, which erupted weeks ago, were triggered by student protests against a controversial job quota system implemented by the Sheikh Hasina-led government. The violence has resulted in over 100 deaths.
A nine-judge Constitution Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud delivered a landmark judgment in an 8:1 decision on July 25. Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has launched a series of attacks against his new campaign rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. He has labelled her as “unfit to rule” and characterised her as a “radical left lunatic” whom he believes voters will dismiss in the upcoming November election.
One of the two intense wildfires threatening the town of Jasper in the largest national park of the Canadian Rockies surged into the town on Wednesday, igniting buildings. Officials from Jasper National Park reported that the fire reached the Southern part of the town on Wednesday evening. Firefighters were engaged in battling several structural fires and focused on safeguarding critical infrastructure.
Typhoon Gaemi, which struck Taiwan, has caused flooding in low-lying areas, landslides, and significant damage to homes and businesses. The storm, which moved across the western Pacific, has resulted in 22 fatalities in the Philippines due to flooding and landslides, and three deaths in Taiwan. Additionally, over 220 people have been reported injured.
