New Delhi: The stock market will remain closed on Thursday, August 15, 2024, on account of India’s 78th Independence Day, according to the BSE and NSE holiday calendar. Key Indian indices, such as the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty will remain closed on Thursday. To be sure, this is the only holiday for index operators BSE and NSE in August and September.

Which segments are closed on August 15

This Independence Day on Thursday, August 15, 2024, there will be no activity in the equity and derivatives segment. Activity in the securities lending and borrowing segment will also remain shut on August 15. Commodity market trading will also remain closed on this day.

There will be no trading in the incommodity derivatives segment as well as the electronic gold receipts segment on the BSE. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will not witness bullion, metals and energy derivatives trading on August 15, 2024.

The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will not witness trading on Independence Day. The stock market will reopen on Friday, August 16, 2024.

How Sensex and Nifty performed on August 14, 2024?

The Sensex on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, closed at 79,105.88, up 149.85 points or 0.19 per cent, while the Nifty was at 24,143.75, up 0.07 per cent. Indian indices closed in green based on expectations of better than expected US CPI inflation data.
