‘Stripped of Her Freedom’: Vasundhara Oswal’s Sister Shares Disturbing Audio Clip

New Delhi: Vasundhara Oswal, the 26-year-old daughter of Indian-origin billionaire Pankaj Oswal, has been behind bars in Uganda for over three weeks. She faces charges of kidnapping and murdering Mukesh Menaria, a former employee who worked on the Oswal family’s private jet and also served as domestic help in their various residences around the world.

The Oswal family, known for their business empire, has now released a distressing audio recording of a phone call made by Vasundhara during her detention in Uganda. According to the family, Vasundhara has been imprisoned by Ugandan authorities since October 1, facing charges of kidnapping and murder of  Menaria. However, the family claims that the individual she is accused of murdering is alive and currently in state custody in Tanzania.

In a social media post, Vasundhara’s sister, Riddhi Oswal, shed light on her ongoing detention: “My sister, Vasundhara Oswal, has been unjustly imprisoned in Uganda for over two and a half weeks, in a prison meant for those convicted of heinous crimes like murder. Yet, she remains behind bars without any evidence against her, and without any valid reason to hold her.”

The family also shared an audio clip of Vasundhara’s last phone call with them, where she is heard in distress, crying, “They’re taking my phone. They’re taking my phone.” Another woman’s voice can be heard protesting, “She’s talking to her family, you cannot deny that. They cannot take your phone.”

Describing the audio, Riddhi wrote: “You will hear an audio of how she was stripped of her freedom and denied a single phone call, even though she was being illegally held. This audio was taken when she was 90 hours in and had an unconditional release order.”

Vasundhara, 26, was arrested at the family’s Extra-Neutral Alcohol (ENA) plant, and Pankaj Oswal asserts that the charges stem from accusations by a former employee who had borrowed $200,000 from the family. According to the Oswals, the employee made the accusations to avoid repaying the loan.

Riddhi further explained that the man, who filed the kidnapping and murder charges, was located in Tanzania and had provided a notarized affidavit stating that neither Vasundhara nor the family mistreated him. “Despite this, the Ugandan state refuses to acknowledge the truth,” she added.

On October 11, the family filed an urgent appeal with the United Nations for intervention in the case. “I am deeply grateful to the media and the UN for their support, and I pray for a positive resolution soon. I don’t know how much longer she can endure this torment,” Riddhi said.
