Chennai: An AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) worker was allegedly hacked to death by unknown assailants in Cuddalore city of Tamil Nadu. The victim, a shop owner, was chased by the accused for a distance being attacked.
A worker of Palaniswami’s party, Padmanabhan was hacked to death in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore, near the Puducherry border. He was a resident of Thirupapuliyur and ran a shop in the area, India Today reported.
Padmanabhan was travelling towards Bagur village when a group of unidentified men followed and surrounded him. Moments later, he was killed.
Initial reports indicated that the gang rammed their four-wheeler into Padmanabhan’s two-wheeler before killing him. However, investigations are still underway.
Padmanabhan had a pending murder case against him. His body was sent for a postmortem, and the police are actively searching for the accused.
The shocking incident comes after the brutal hacking to death of state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong in Chennai on July 5. Armstrong was killed by a gang and the case had led to widespread outrage.
Opposition parties, including the AIADMK, have alleged a deterioration of law and order in the state. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has called for a CBI investigation into the Armstrong murder case. BSP supremo and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, along with many other leaders, have also made similar pleas.
