Tamil Nadu: CM MK Stalin launches expansion of ‘free’ breakfast scheme to govt aided schools

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday launched the expansion of the breakfast scheme for primary school children to state-aided private schools. Stalin has inaugurated the program today at St. Annal Government Aided Primary School in Geezachery Village, Kadambathur Union in Tiruvallur District on the occasion of former CM Kamaraja’s birthday. The scheme is aiming at eradicating nutrition deficiency among students.

“For the Dravidian model of government, the idea is that there should be no obstacle for students to study. Be it hunger, NEET examination, new education policy… My first task is to break the barriers for students to study” Chief Minister MK Stalin said at the breakfast schems expansion event.

2.2 lakh students in 3,995 government schools to benefit”

The Tamil Nadu government has announced that 2, 23, 536 children studying in 3,995 government-aided primary schools will benefit from the program that has been launched today. The scheme which was launched by CM MK Stalin on in September 2022 has benefitted over 20 lakh students and the first of it’s scheme implemented by the state government improved attendance and brought down school drop outs, the Tamil Nadu government claimed.

The scheme initially provided nutritious breakfast to 1,14,095 students of classes I to V studying in 1,545 government schools, and later it has been extended to 31,000 government schools across the State, benefitting 20 lakh students.

The Breakfast with Nutritious Food Program was launched to benefit all children studying from class 1 to class 5 in all government primary schools in Tamil Nadu. After the scheme was well received among children and parents, CM Stalin announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly last year that it will be extended to government-aided primary schools.
