Tamil Nadu DGP warn youth of overseas job scam; details inside

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal has issued a warning to youngsters seeking job opportunities in Southeast Asia due to a rise in cyber slavery and scams. According to the statement issued by the DGP, many Indian youth aged 20 to 24 have been lured to countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand with promises of lucrative jobs, only to be forced into cyber slavery and other illegal activities such as online scams, fraud, and money laundering.

The DGP has asked youth to check with the Protector of Emigrants about the authenticity of agents.

Tamil Nadu Police provides the following guidelines for job seeking youth,

1) Thoroughly verify the nature of the job and the profile of the agent by approaching the custodian of immigration.

2) Only registered agents are authorized to send people for overseas work

3) One should only travel for work on an employment or work visa Tourist visa should be used only for tourism purpose

4) Any advertisements in regional newspapers for employment opportunities in Southeast Asian countries should be reported to the local police to verify its veracity.
