Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister and TDP leader Satya Prasad Anagani hit out at ex-cm and YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after the latter sought the status of ‘Leader of opposition’ in the Legislative Assembly.
In a post on social media platform X, Anagani said, “It is ironic that Jagan wrote to the Speaker. Even when he was not eligible, we are allowing his vehicle in the assembly. He was supposed to take oath in alphabetical order, but his oath was administered earlier on the request of YCP leaders. People did not even give opposition status to Jagan.”
On Tuesday, Jagan Reddy in a letter to the Assembly speaker Ayyannapatrudu, said that the YSRC secured 40 percent vote share in the recent elections.
He also referred to a theory that he would not be eligible to be the LoP on the grounds that the YSRCP strength does not constitute 10 percent of the Assembly strength.
He stated that the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the AP Assembly notified under Article 208 of the Constitution does not require any mandatory percentage of seats to have its leader recognised as the leader of opposition.
He also said that the procedure followed on June 21 during oath taking in the Assembly already gave him an impression that a decision was taken to not grant him the status of LoP.
