Telangana: BRS chief KCR gets notices in power purchase agreements irregularities probe

Hyderabad: The Justice Narasimha Reddy-led panel has issued notices to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao to provide a detailed response on his involvement in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs) during his tenure. The commission demanded a response from KCR by June 15.

Responding to the notices, KCR asked for time till July 30 to provide clarifications in the matter.  The commission was set up to investigate irregularities in the power purchase agreements made when BRS was in government. The probe is focusing especially on Yadadri and Damarcherla power plants and it also includes a proposed 1,000 MW power purchase from Chhattisgarh.

On Monday, former Chairman and Managing Director of TS Genco and Transco, Prabhakar Rao, with former special chief secretary Suresh Chanda, appeared before the commission. Suresh Chanda was involved in the proposal to buy power from Chhattisgarh.

The commission warned the former CM that if the response is unsatisfactory, his personal appearance will be sought. The panel is expected to send notices to other officials involved.
