Telangana Foundation Day: A throwback to the birth of the state

New Delhi: Nestled on the Deccan Plateau, in the central stretch of the eastern seaboard of the Indian Peninsula, Telangana is one of India’s southern states and is home to glorious historical monuments and natural beauty. Independence is not a day long journey, it comes with endless efforts and sacrifice throughout its extensive journey. After years of efforts by numerous prominent leaders, students and common people, Telangana became an independent state on June 2, 2014, by carving out from Andhra Pradesh. Since then, the residents of Telangana have observed June 2 as the foundation day of the state. While the state observes a public holiday on this date, the residents dive deep into the colour of joy and happiness. The journey of Telangana to become an Independent state

After prolonged struggle, Telangana was carved out as an independent state from Andhra Pradesh on June 2, 2014. Becoming the youngest state in the country, Telangana became the country’s 29th state.

Following the cultural and economic differences between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the movement for the formation of Telangana as an independent state began in the early 1950s.

The movement for the formation of Telangana witnessed several agitations, including some major in 1969 and 2009, which highlighted regional disparities and governance issues.

Following the demands and to calm down the prolonged agitations, the Indian Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, and facilitated the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, carving out Telangana as a new state.

The youngest state is spread over an area of 1,12,077 square kilometres and has 33 districts for smooth governance.

While Hyderabad, which is also the capital city, is considered to be the smallest city, Bhadradri Kothagudem holds the title of being the largest district.

For ten years, Hyderabad served as the shared capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana is well known for its natural as well as hygienic beauty and has secured 12 ‘Swachh Survekshan’ awards for the best sanitation practices in the country.

Telangana is a prominent tourist destination with historical architecture like Charminar, Warangal Fort, Taj Falaknuma Palace, and Ramappa Temple, a UNESCO heritage site.

Additionally, the state is home to natural beauty, with a wide range of flora and fauna found in the region. Kanakai waterfall, Kinnerasani Dam, Bogatha waterfall, Palair Lake, and Tiger Forest, among others, are some of the beautiful destinations that not only attract domestic visitors but also inspire visitors from far across the globe.
