Hyderabad: Telangana government led by CM Revanth Reddy will launch the farm loan waiver scheme on Thursday, fulfilling an election promise benefiting 70 lakh farmers.
Revanth Reddy announced that farmers who owe up to Rs 1 lakh in crop loans will receive the amount in their bank accounts by 4 pm on Thursday and by the end of the month, loans up to Rs 1.5 lakh will be waived while loans of up to Rs 2 lakh will be waived by August 15.
A total amount of Rs 7,000 crore will be credited by the government in the first phase, he said. He stated that the Congress government has spent over Rs 30,000 crore on just welfare schemes after coming to power in December.
On Wednesday, Reddy held a meeting with ministers, MLAs, MLCs and Congress party leaders at Praja Bhavan ahead of the launch. He suggested ministers and other public representatives to hold ‘Rythu Vedikas’ to share the joy with farmers.
Bike rallies will be organized in villages and mandal centres to mark the occasion and the CM will interact virtually with farmers through video conferencing.
Meanwhile, the state government has clarified that ration cards will be used only for family identification and that 6.36 lakh farmers who do not possess ration cards and took farm loans are also eligible to avail the farm loan waiver benefit.
