Telangana: Justice L Narasimha Reddy resigns from Commission of Inquiry probing power procurement

Hyderabad: Justice L Narasimha Reddy, former chief justice of Patna High Court and current head of the inquiry commission into alleged irregularities in Chhattisgarh power purchase, resigned from his post on Tuesday.

The commission was set up by the Congress government to look into the role of ex-cm K Chandrasekhar Rao in the irregularities during his tenure.

The Supreme Court was hearing the plea of the former Telangana chief minister alleging bias against the head of the inquiry commission.

The top court pulled up Justice Narasimha Reddy for holding a press conference and briefing the media in connection to the alleged violations and asked Telangana government to change the chairman of the panel.

In the note of resignation, Retd Justice Reddy blamed journalists and said they used to pester his office. “When we were not holding any press briefing, reporters were publishing news about commission on imagination. To put an end to that, we held a conference.”

KCR filed the plea challenging the government’s constitution of the commission. During the hearing of the petition, the SC expressed disapproval of the statements made by Reddy to the press.

Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for Justice (retd) Reddy, told the top court that his client had resigned.

After the resignation, the bench disposed off KCR’s petition and said that they did not want to go into the issue of formation of the commission.
