Chennai: Heavy rain is likely in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department. Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thenkasi, Tirunelvei, and Kumari districts are likely to experience heavy rain.
Meanwhile, Villupuram district, Tindivanam and surrounding areas received heavy rain with thunder and lightning on Friday. The places like Saram, Olakkur, Vellimedu Pettai, Brahmadesam, Murokeri, and other places witnessed intese spells. 5 people were injured when the roof of a commercial complex building was sheltered from heavy rain in Tiruppathur of Sivagangai district.

Similarly, Heavy rain that lashed the Dewala area of Nilgiri district for more than 2 hours led to flooding on roads. Udhagai, Coonoor, Kotagiri, and other places witnessed heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Due to heavy rain near Sathyamangalam in the Erode district, the land bridge leading to the Kunri area was submerged in water.
Chennai based weather blogger K Srikanth of Chennai rains predcited that “With the depression moving up Westerlies is strengthening along Chennai coast. Sea breeze will start struggling from now on. Most private Weather stations have recorded 38°C and above. Welcome back Summer 2024.”
