New Delhi: Two heavyweight fights are announced by Dana White for the UFC Edmonton event. Derrick Lewis vs newcomer Jhonata Diniz will co-event the UFC Edmonton and Alexandr Romanov vs Rodrigo Nascimento heavyweight bout is also set for UFC Edmonton and this will be a ranked matchup for both fighters.
Diniz is undefeated in the UFC, winning three bouts in just a year. Lewis is also coming into this fight with a knockout win against Nascimento. but Lewis has lost four fights of his last six fights and will look to win back-to-back fights. This is a replacement fight, originally the fight between Lewis and Alexander Romanov was set for the co-main event but unfortunately, the fight has been scrapped.
Romanov will take on Nascimento, both fighters are coming from a loss and will look to be back in the winning column. Roman was undefeated in his career but in the last two years, he lost three fights out of his last four fights. Romanov started his career with 16 straight wins that was stopped by Marcin Tybura and after that, Romanov was struggling to find his rhythm to get back in the win column.
This will be the first UFC event this year which will take place in Canada. Some Canadian fighters are featured in the fight card such as Narc-Andre Barriault, Jamwy-Lyn Horth, Jasmine Jasudavicius, and Chad Anheliger. The Canadian card is headlined by a Women’s flyweight fight between Erin Blanchfield vs Rose Namajunas.
