New Delhi: In one of the biggest upsets in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Jammu and Kashmir thumped 42-time champions Mumbai on Saturday at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai. The Paras Dogra-led side won by five wickets as the match was wrapped inside three days.

Despite the stupendous efforts of Shardul Thakur (119) and Tanush Kotian (62) putting 184 runs in their partnership for the eighth wicket, the Jammu and Kashmir bowlers bundled up Mumbai for 290 in the second innings. Auqib Nabi (4 for 80) and Yudhvir Singh (3 for 64) bowled flawlessly to pick the last three Mumbai wickets and ensure their lead didn’t stretch beyond 204.

Jammu and Kashmir opener Shubham Khajuria set the tone for the chase with 45 runs scored off 89 balls. He was involved in a 75-run stand with Vivrant Sharma (38) as the duo played with composure and clasped their innings. Shubham was cleaned up by Mumbai spinner Shams Mulani.

Mulani picked up wickets of Yawer Hassan, Vivrant and Abdul Samad to keep Mumbai’s fight on as the visitors were reduced to 159 for 5. Even skipper Dogra failed to put any impactful score that could help him to finish the game. He was caught by Thakur off Mulani’s bowling as he departed for 15 runs.

Abid Mushtaq (32 off 32 balls) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (19 off 23 balls) took the mantle and didn’t let any string lose in their partnership. The duo forged an unbeaten 48-run stand with Abid taking the charge and hit three boundaries and two sixes as Jammu and Kashmir continued their dream run this season.

J & K has confirmed their berth in the knockout stage as they have completed their fourth win this season and continue to remain unbeaten. Jammu and Kashmir last won against Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match in December 2014 at the Wankhede Stadium. After defeting Services, Meghalaya and Tripura, this was a big win for Dogra and boys. They drew against Maharashtra and Baroda in their first two matches.

Jammu and Kashmir pulled off a major upset in the Ranji Trophy, defeating 42-time champions Mumbai by five wickets in just three days. Despite a strong eighth-wicket partnership by Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian, J&K’s bowlers, particularly Auqib Nabi and Yudhvir Singh, restricted their lead to 204.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
