Thiruvalla : A 43-second video shot by the employees of the Thiruvalla Municipality in Kottayam district has become viral with many criticizing the employees for enacting it at a government office and some giving a thumps up for the employees for their ‘performance’.
On the flip side, the Thiruvalla Municipality secretary in Pathanamthitta district under which the employees are working has served a show-cause notice to eight employees after a social media reel of theirs went viral. The department is of the view that the video was shown in a bad taste and hence the employees have been asked to give an explanation.
The video shows the employees under the revenue section dancing and enacting for the famous Malayalam film song ‘poove poove pala poove’ from the movie ‘Devadoothan’.
Interestingly, many of those supported the employees endorsed that such act should not be seen as a ‘crime’. Meanwhile, others said that the employees were demeaning their official position.
In the video, one of the employee can be seen enacting to the tunes of a Malayalam film song and the other employees following suit.
All the eight employees were asked to reply within three days.
“We have done our duty as per the protocols. Every one should be aware of the norms and etiquettes while in the office. We have asked them for an explanation. If the explanation is found unsatisfactory, further action will be taken”, said one of the senior official in the revenue section in Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier too, there was similar incidents reported from government offices that had drawn the ire of the senior officials. However, in most of such cases, the employees are warned or either issued a notice. However, in certain instances where the place of occurrence is a hospital or other sensitive areas, disciplinary actions are being initiated. During the time of Covid-19 epidemic, there has been number of instances where nurses, doctors and other staffs singing and dancing inside the ward to enthuse the patients, mostly elderly.
Meanwhile, one of the employee who had spoken to the media said that the reel was shot at a time when the office was not working and had not caused any disruption to work or to those who came for any of their needs.
As per the notice, if the explanation is unsatisfactory, strict disciplinary action will be initiated.
