New Delhi: Fast bowlers are a rare commodity in Indian cricket. Apart from his sublime skills and incredible consistency what makes Jasprit Bumrah even more special is his ability to deliver under pressure and turn matches around for India in the most difficult situations. Bumrah is one of the best fast bowlers in the world at present and has already proven his worth for Team India on several occasions.
Lauding Bumrah, senior spinner R Ashwin called the premier Indian pacer the ‘most valuable’ Indian cricketer at present while snubbing the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ashwin hailed Bumrah as a once-in-a-generation bowler while highlighting his importance to the Indian team. Bumrah played an instrumental role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph earlier this year.
The fast bowler was consistent throughout the tournament and was the most economical bowler by a distance. He rescued India under pressure on many occasions with his pace and precision. Bumrah picked up 15 wickets in the tournament to bag the Player of the Tournament award and was one of the best performers for the team.
“India has always been the country that is a batsman-dominated country, and it’s never going to change. But I am so glad and happy that we are celebrating Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. We should celebrate him even more,” Ashwin said on journalist Vimal Kumar’s official YouTube channel.
He called Bumrah the most valuable Indian cricketer currently and insisted the fast bowler should be treated with respect for his achievements.
“We Chennai people appreciate bowlers a lot. He was here for an event as a chief guest 4-5 days ago. We gave him a Rajni treatment. We (Chennai people) treat bowlers very nicely. He should be treated as a champion. I don’t want to name, but Jasprit Bumrah is the most valuable Indian cricketer right now,” Ashwin added.
Bumrah has become one of the vital cogs in the Indian bowling line-up across formats ever since his international debut in 2016. He has become India’s pace spearhead in all forms of the game and has so far picked up 159, 149 and 89 wickets in 36 Tests, 89 ODIs and 70 T20Is, respectively. He is currently ranked no.3 in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers and no.8 in the ODI rankings.
