Vistara’s last flight: Staff, social media users emotional prior to Air India merger

New Delhi: The date November 11, 2024, will be etched in the history of Indian airlines as on that day, Vistara flew its final flights with its own brand. From November 12, the airlines will merge with Air India, marking the end of a complex and messy process which went on for two years. In a post on social media X(formerly Twitter), Vistara said, “As the plane ascends, so do our dreams; let’s glide toward the future, where the sky isn’t the limit, but just the beginning.”

With the end of Vistara, the number of full-service carriers in India’s fast-growing aviation space will come down to just one from five within just over 17 years. The merger, which will see Singapore Airlines which is a 49 per cent owner of Vistara holding holding 25.1 per cent stake in Air India post the merger, will mark the end of one of the finest airlines in the country.

Vistara-Air India merger: What will remain the same?

After the merger, the aircraft of Vistara will operate under Air India, and the planes can be identified by a unique four-digit Air India code beginning with “2”. But while the flight codes will change after the merger, the routes and schedules of Vistara will remain unchanged along with the in-flight experience, products, and services, delivered by the same crew.

Air India is taking several measures to make the transition seamless by bolstering its resources at several places in the country. Also, it is coordinating with partner airports to introduce measures like help desks, the ET reported.

Those fliers who are devoted to Vistara are worried that the standard of cabin service standards after the merger will fall. The cabin service was one of the things that differentiated Vistara from others. According to Air India, the catering service of Vistara will be extended to all planes across the newly merged airline.
