New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has left for England for their upcoming five-match Test series, which begins at Headingley in Leeds on June 20. Shubman Gill, who will be assuming the new role of captain, will lead a strong 18-man outfit on English soil for over a month and a half. The team was seen arriving at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport late at night on Thursday to board a flight to England.

Ahead of their departure, the captain Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed a press conference in which they talked about their combination and planning for the gruelling tour. While the India A side is already in England, the senior men’s team left for the British nation two weeks ahead of their first Test against England. They are scheduled to play a four-day warm-up game against India A (intra-squad) in Beckenham from June 13, in the lead-up to the series.

The Indian team, as usual, took a late-night flight to England from Mumbai, as the team first arrived at the airport in a bus and got out amid proper security as a few fans tried to get a glimpse of their cricketing heroes. The team waited for their ticket checks and spent some good time in the lobby inside the airport, where they clicked a few pictures to share with their fans on social media.

Gill was seen along with maiden Test call-ups Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh, while regulars like Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja were also seen travelling with the team. Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar were also in the company.

WTC 2025-27 cycle begins

India will be touring England for the five-match Test series as part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle. The Men in Blue were quite dismal in the 2023-25 cycle and missed the chance to make a hat-trick of WTC finals. This five-match affair begins the next Test cycle for both England and India as they aim to start on a bright note.

India will be without their star seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they bid farewell to Tests last month, and a young Gill is carrying a heavy baggage of responsibilities to lead the team on English soil.

Team India jetted off to England from the Mumbai airport late night on Thursday for their upcoming five-match Test series which begins on June 20 in Leeds.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
