What a throw! Street-smart Quinton de Kock runs out Axar Patel in T20 World Cup 2024 final – WATCH

New Delhi: South Africa wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock produced a moment of brilliance in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against India as he ran Axar Patel out with a sensational throw. Axar was looking in magnificent touch and was well set in the middle when De Kock showed great presence of mind to run him out on the non-striker’s end and give South Africa an important breakthrough.

The dismissal took place in the 14th over when Kagiso Rabada was in action for South Africa. Kohli missed a back-of-length ball from Rabada on the third delivery of the over. The ball hit him on his pad and went to the left of De Kock behind the stumps. Axar came down from the non-striker’s end trying to steal a single. However, he was quickly sent back by Kohli but some sloppy running saw him lose his wicket as De Kock hit the bull’s eye with his throw.

It was a brilliant throw from De Kock, who showed street smartness as he aimed for the stumps at the non-striker’s end while standing on the striker’s end. The angle too was a difficult one but De Kock had already seen Axar venturing out of his crease and decided to take his chance. The result was a run out as India lost an important wicket.

Axar’s wicket brought an end to his partnership with Kohli as the duo added 82 runs for the fourth wicket. The left-hander, who was promoted to bat at no.5 after India lost three quick wickets at the top, repaid the faith shown by the team management with a valuable knock of 47 runs off 31 balls laced with three sixes and a solitary four.

Kohli top scores as India post 176/7 on the board

Kohli finally returned among the runs with a big knock in the final as he top-scored for India with 76 off 59 balls. Kohli’s knock was studded with 6 fours and two sixes. The senior batter did struggle for most of his innings but managed to finish off well with a late flourish to help India post a strong total of 176/7 on the board in the final.

Shivam Dube too made an important contribution to India’s innings as he scored 27 runs off 16 balls. The onus is now on the bowlers to help India defend the total and win the final to end their long-standing ICC trophy drought with the T20 World Cup 2024 title.
