Who is MS Dhoni’s favourite bowler? Former India captain answers million-dollar question – WATCH

New Delhi: The legendary MS Dhoni named Jasprit Bumrah as his favourite bowler in the world at present. Dhoni was asked to name his favourite bowler in the world by a fan during a recent event. The former India captain had no second thoughts in picking Bumrah, who is arguably one of the best fast bowlers in the world at present.

Bumrah has been a vital cog in India’s bowling line-up for a number of years now and played an instrumental role in helping the Men in Blue win the T20 World Cup 2024 title last month. Bumrah was named the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup for his bowling heroics as he finished the tournament with 15 wickets from 8 matches.

While he picked Bumrah as his favourite bowler, Dhoni refused to name one batter as his favourite and said he is happy as long as all Indian batters keep doing well for the team. He said India have no dearth of talent when it comes to batting and he likes watching all of them.

“Current favourite, it’s easy to pick a bowler since Bumrah is there. It’s difficult to pick a batter because we have several good batters but that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good. It’s difficult pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else he also looks great. As long as team India are doing fine, I don’t want to pick a batter but I hope they will keep scoring runs. However, I have picked my favourite bowler,” Dhoni said at the event, a clip of which has gone viral.

Bumrah’s stellar show in T20 World Cup 2024

Bumrah was the best bowler in the T20 World Cup 2024 by a fair distance and turned out to be the saviour for India on several occasions. The premier pacer finished as the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament but his economy rate was best among the top ten. Bumrah consistently delivered wickets for India in crunch situations, including a sensational spell against South Africa in the final.

South Africa were cruising towards victory at one stage in the final when Bumrah produced two exceptional overs to turn the game in India’s favour. With 30 runs required of 30 balls, Bumrah conceded only 6 runs off his two overs in the death to help India win by 7 runs and clinch the elusive trophy.

Bumrah became only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to win the Player of the Tournament award in a T20 World Cup. The pacer has been rested from India’s ongoing tour of Sri Lanka and is expected to return to action when India host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in September this year.
