New Delhi: Barcelona and Real Madrid facing each other before the season starts is almost customary in recent times. In New York, it was the Blaugrana that were on the winning side. Their recent signing, Pau Victor, scored a brace, and their academy stars Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, and Alex Valle were impressive during the clash.
Still, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick expressed he wasn’t fully satisfied with the side’s performance later in the media. He admitted that while the team had faired well in the US against Champions League winners Manchester City and Madrid, it did have some issues it needed to address.
According to Flick, the team wasn’t able to put pressure on the opposition on several occasions, which can be a problem for the side. He felt that the team needed to focus on this and press for 90 minutes. He admitted that his team gave their best in their game against Real Madrid, which was a Clasico. Overall, Barca improved as they ensured that the game didn’t go to penalty shooting, and the German manager was impressed with this.

Flick was happy with youngsters who have been central to the touring squad in the US. He mentioned that it was good to have the young talent in the team and was reassuring that they had enough skills to have a secured future in the coming time. Victor, who is being touted as the successor to Robert Lewandowski, has been brilliant in the wing as well. Expressing his delight at the 22-year-old’s scoring thrice in two games, Flick said that it was impressive and that the first team would be welcoming players of his calibre.
However, Flick didn’t divulge any details on the future of the ex-Girona striker’s chances of continuing with the senior team and not returning to the Barca Atletic reserved squad in the upcoming season of 2024-24. It is clear that nothing has been decided on Victor’s future. For now, though, Barca have to focus on playing their next opponent, AC Milan, in Baltimore at the M&T Bank Stadium on Wednesday.
