Why did Rahul Dravid lose his cool at reporter ahead of IND vs AFG T20 World Cup Super 8 clash?

New Delhi: Team India head coach Rahul Dravid was forced to bring back some bitter memories while attending the pre-match press conference for India’s Super 8 clash against Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2024. Dravid, who is a crucial part of Team India’s backroom staff after the completion of his astounding career with the team, doesn’t boast the best of numbers behind him as a player in Barbados.

As Dravid sat and faced questions from different reporters, one of those reminded him of his poor stats at the venue which visibly irked the Indian head coach. Dravid indeed had a straight and simple reply in his kitty as he gave the reporter an insight into his psyche saying he is someone who moves on quickly and is only looking to do good as a coach and not thinking about his performances as a player in the past.

“Rahul, you as a player, you have played here. Not the best memories of the 97 Test?” the reporter asked. “Geez, thanks a lot buddy! I have had some other decent memories here as well,” Dravid replied. The reporter was rather stubborn and tried pulling Dravid back into it – “That is actually my question. A chance for you to probably make new and much better memories tomorrow?” Dravid lost his cool at the reporter and said, “God man! I am not trying to make anything new man!”

What happened in the 1997 Barbados Test?

Dravid arrived in Barbados in 1997 when India took on West Indies and scored 78 and 2 as the Indian team lost the Test by 38 runs in Bridgetown. Now that he is the coach of the Indian team, all he is thinking about is the task he has in his hand and not what happened 25 years back.

“I move on from things very quickly. That’s one of my things. I don’t look back on things. I try and look at what I am doing now, at the moment. I am not concerned about what happened in 97 or some other year. I don’t think of myself much as a player anymore. Yeah, just move on. Focus on tomorrow, and try and get a good result tomorrow,” Dravid added.
