New Delhi: News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigress football talent hunt is a game-changing initiative that can help shape the future of Indian football. After trials in multiple cities across the nation and a grand finale in Delhi, the 32 young footballers, handpicked from different parts of the country, are set to get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with the best in Australia and realise their sporting dreams.
Thousands of young boys and girls took part in the football trials that were conducted across the nation as part of the Indian Tigers and Tigress talent hunt, however, only 32 made it to the final selections and will now be on the flight to Austria. Noida’s Yashas Suri is among the talented young guns selected for the dream trip where he will get a chance to work with some of the finest football coaches and train in the best infrastructure.
Yashas, a 15-year-old budding goalkeeper, hails from Noida and started playing football at the tender age of 4. While most relish goals and dream about scoring them, Yashas realised his calling at a young age and decided to pursue goalkeeping after starting his journey as a winger. Not looking too far away for inspiration, he considers Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu his idol and wants to follow in his footsteps.
Though he started at a very young age, Yashas polished his goalkeeping skills at the now-defunct Barca Academy in Noida. He learnt the tricks and trades of shot-stopping from his coaches at the academy and grew through the ranks. Yashas plays for Star Strikers FA – a football club based in Noida’s JBM Global School and hopes to make it big in the future.
While he credits his coaches for his learnings, his football journey wouldn’t have materialised without the strong support system provided by his parents. His parents believe sports and studies go hand in hand and have left no stone unturned in ensuring the best possible facilities to help their son in his football journey. Yashas too believes his father has had a big role to play in his football journey so far.
Yashas was selected in the Delhi trails for the Indian Tigers and Tigress football talent hunt and is overwhelmed at the prospect of travelling to Austria and training with the best in the business. His parents too are proud of how far their son has come and hope that he can go on to make a name for himself in the sport in the years to come.
