Yet another failure for Sanju Samson as Kerala batter slips on first-class return

New Delhi: It was yet another failure for wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson as he failed to impress on his return to first-class cricket on Friday. Samson, representing India D in the Duleep Trophy, could only muster 5 runs in a second-round clash against India A in Anatapur. After opening his account in style with a boundary off a short-pitched delivery, Samson assured the fans of an impressive knock.

But to everyone’s disappointment, the Kerala batter did not last long and had a short stay on the crease after he mistimed a short which went straight into the hands of the fielder. After India A pacer Aaqib Khan dismissed Yash Dubey, Samson came onto the crease with an aim of an impactful performance. While he dispatched the India A pacer for a four off his first, the second went in his favour as Samson mistimed a pull shot landing straight into the hands of Prasidh Krishna who was placed at mid-on.

Samson not part of Duleep Trophy squads initially

Sanju Samson initially wasn’t picked for any of the four squads in the Duleep Trophy and was just part of the reserves but after Ishan Kishan picked up a groin injury and was subsequently ruled out, it paved way for the Kerala player to be included in the India D squad. Surprisingly, Ishan made a return to the Duleep Trophy in the second round after recovering from his injury quickly and was made part of the India C playing XI.

Shockingly, Samson has not been in the best of form since a long time and has failed to impress on multiple occasions in the past. The Kerala player would be hoping to make amends in the second innings and come up with an impressive performance.
