New Delhi: Novak Djokovic will look to continue his dominant run and move an inch closer to a historic 25th Grand Slam title when he locks horns with Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka in the Round of 16 of men’s singles at the Australian Open 2025 on Sunday, January 19. Djokovic defeated Tomas Machac in straight sets in his third-round clash on Friday to storm into the 4th round of the tournament.
The Serbian ace didn’t have the smoothest of starts in Melbourne as he was made to toil hard for victories in the first two rounds. Djokovic dropped a set against 20-year-old Nishesh Basavareddy in the opening round but ended up outlasting the youngster comfortably in the end to secure a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory. In the second round, he once again earned a hard-fought win against Jaime Faria.
However, Djokovic showed glimpses of brilliance in his dominant win against Machac in the third round. The Serbian battled illness and niggles to reign supreme and enter the Round of 16 of the tournament. He will be hoping to continue his winning run when he takes on Lehecka in the 4th round of the Australian Open on Sunday.
23-year-old Lehecka, who is currently the top-ranked Czech player in singles, reached the Round of 16 after earning a comfortable 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 victory against Benjamin Bonzi in the third round. Lehecka has enjoyed a great start to 2025 and is currently unbeaten in 8 matches having also won his second ATP Tour title in the Brisbane International earlier this year.
