New Delhi: World no.1 Jannik Sinner will be eyeing his maiden Italian Open title on his home turf in Rome when he takes on world no.3 Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster final on Sunday, May 18. The high-octane final will be played at the Campo Centrale in Rome. The two players, who share a great rivalry, will be meeting for the first time in the final of a Masters 1000 event.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz headed into the final after beating after defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-final, while Sinner, who clinched the Australian Open title earlier this year, got the better of American Tommy Paul in a three-setter to book a spot in the summit clash. This will be the last meeting between the duo before the French Open 2025.
Sinner is currently on a 26-match unbeaten streak and will be looking to become the first Italian since Adriano Panatta in 1976 to clinch the men’s singles title at the Italian Open on Sunday. Sinner has been unbeaten since the China Open final last year and has made it to his eighth consecutive final. The Italian world no.1 will be looking to continue his flawless streak on Sunday.
However, standing in his way would be a spirited Alcaraz, who played one of the best matches of the tournament in the semi-final against Musetti to book a showdown against Sinner in the final. Alcaraz defeated Sinner in the China Open last year to end his winning streak and would be hoping to do the same in the Italian Open final on Sunday.
