Hyderabad: Madhapur Police arrested seven people in the Mosh Pub online dating scam from Nagpur, Maharashtra on Wednesday, tv9 telugu reported.
The accused from Delhi, identified as Akash Kumar, Akshat, Suraj Kumar, Shivraj Nayak, Mohit Kumar, pub owner Tarun, Ghanta Jagdish, Navodaya have been arrested, Madhapur DCP Vineet said. He stated that they are taking steps to cancel the license of the pub.
The victims were lured via online dating apps by creating profiles of attractive women and once they matched and talked, they were invited to Mosh Pub in Banjara Hills and were forced to foot exorbitant bills for food and beverages. The bills could go as high as Rs 45,000, as per reports. The money earned through this process was split between the pub owner, organisers and the women.
Devils Night Club gang defrauds people:
The gang which originated in Delhi under the guise of a night club, recruited women to register on popular dating apps such as Hinge, Tinder, Bumble to attract customers.
When the match was made, a member of the gang would be chatting with the victim in reality. When the victims were asked to come to the pub, they would be tricked to spend large amounts of money. The gang reportedly defrauded at least 50-60 customers this way over a period of 45 days and earned Rs 30 lakh.
Their operations were spread across Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad and they planned to extend the operation to Nagpur as well. Eight mobile phones and two vehicles, worth Rs 40 lakh were seized by the police.
A case has been registered under IPC sections 406, 419, 420 at Madhapur Police station, Cyberabad.
