New Delhi: Indian tennis player Ankita Raina features among other four Indians who have received a wildcard entry for the main draw of the fourth Mumbai Open tennis tournament. The WTA 125 event will be held in the city’s Cricket Club of India from February 1, Saturday. The other three Indian names who will compete in the main draw of the event are country’s top singles player Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Vaishnavi Adkar.

Apart from the four Indians who will compete in the main draw, few other Indian tennis players have been handed wildcards for the qualifying round of the Mumbai Open. Maharashtra’s Maaya Rajeshwaran and Akansha Nitture have received the wildcards for the qualification round.

Qualifying from Saturday, main draw from Feb 3

The tennis tournament, which offers a total prize purse of USD 125,000 will begin with the qualifying rounds on Saturday, followed by the main draw commencing from February 3.

Wild Card Entries for Indian Players

Sahaja Yamalapalli – India No 1, Ankita Raina – India No 2, Shrivalli Bhamidipathy – India No 3, Vaishnavi Adkar – Maharashtra No 1, Qualifying Round Entrants: Maaya Rajeshwaran, Akansha Nitture – Maharashtra No 2.

Currently ranked 286 in the world, Ankita Raina has time and again proved that her hunger for wins has no boundaries as the 32-year-old, seemingly the most popular name in Indian women’s tennis after Sania Mirza, has proved that with her stupendous performances on the tennis court. Earlier in the month, Raina bagged a fabulous win over Russia’s Daria Kudashova in the first round of the KPB Trust Women’s Open at KSLTA courts, proving her might.

The talented tennis player would be hoping to begin the Mumbai Open tennis with a bang as she has been in a fabulous touch with the racket since a last few months. While the Ahmedabad girl is a little far away when it comes to rankings in singles, her doubles rankings sees her in the top-100 list around the world.

Apart from Ankita Raina, three other Indian names who will compete in the main draw of the event are country’s top singles player Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Vaishnavi Adkar.  Tennis Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
