New Delhi: Amid heightened security measures following ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces, the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premeir League (IPL) 2025 is likely to be shifted out of Dharamshala. Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan following India’s military operation, which targeted nine terror launchpads across Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (POK).
In the aftermath of the military operation, over 200 flights have been cancelled or postponed from key airports across northwest India. The flight operations have been suspended across 18 airports, including Dharamshala, Chandigarh and Amritsar. Major airlines, including Air India and Indigo, have suspended flights till May 10 from several airports along the border of Pakistan.
With the airlines suspending operations and the Dharamshala airport temporarily shut, it has impacted the travel plans of Mumbai Indians. The MI squad was expected to arrive in Dharamshala later this week for their clash against Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday, May 11. However, they are unlikely to travel to Dharamshala now.
As per a report in News18, the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings is set to be played in Mumbai. However, it won’t take place at the Wankhede Stadium – the original home ground of the Mumbai Indians. The match might be played at the Brabourne Stadium or the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
Dark clouds hover over PBKS vs DC clash on May 08
Meanwhile, dark clouds are hovering over the match between Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals, which is scheduled to be played in Dharamshala on Thursday, May 08. While Punjab Kings were already based in Dharamshala, having hosted Lucknow Super Giants at their second home ground last week, the DC squad touched down in the city earlier this week.
However, as per the report, the BCCI is in touch with the central government to determine if the match should be conducted as per schedule. Dharamsala is just 60km away from the India-Pakistan border and there are concerns about hosting over 20,000 people at the stadium with floodlights on amid escalating tensions between the two nations.
